“I can’t thank you enough for the amazing results you have achieved and given that you had very limited options I think it’s nothing short of a miracle!!! Thank you again for your professionalism and perseverance in working with me to achieve the best results possible given my challenging circumstances. My entire experience from beginning to end has been an absolute pleasure. From the initial consultation and throughout the whole process, you have listened to my concerns to include post operation, didn’t quibble or dismiss my concerns regarding some potential revisions and most importantly, to me, acted and worked towards the best achievable results possible.”

What is acute and chronic sinusitis?

Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses that can be either acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Our expert team is experienced in diagnosing and treating both forms, ensuring you receive the best care tailored to your condition.

What is balloon sinus dilation?

Balloon sinus dilation is a minimally invasive technique suitable for the treatment of sinusitis in some cases.

The aims of balloon sinus dilation are:

  • to provide relief from uncomfortable and painful sinusitis symptoms
  • to unblock sinuses without invasive surgery.

Treatment is usually carried out under general anaesthetic, although it may be possible to perform the procedure under local anaesthetic.

Tiny balloons are carefully directed into blocked sinus openings. Once the correct position is confirmed, the balloon is inflated to high pressures to stretch the narrow channels.

The entire procedure takes only a few minutes, with patients typically experiencing only slight discomfort.

One of the significant benefits of balloon sinus dilation is the rapid recovery time, allowing patients to return to work and normal activities quickly.

Nasal Polyp Removal, London

Nasal polyps are common in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. These non-cancerous inflammatory swellings originate from the lining of the nose, often causing nasal blockage and potentially a loss of sense of smell. At The Harley Street Nose Clinic in London, we specialise in the effective removal of nasal polyps to alleviate symptoms and improve your quality of life.

What are Nasal Polyps?

Nasal polyps are benign growths that develop from the mucous membrane of the nose and sinuses.

Patients typically experience:

  • Nasal Blockage: Difficulty breathing through the nose due to obstruction.
  • Loss of Smell: A reduced or complete loss of the sense of smell.

The aims of polyp removal are:

  • to remove abnormal tissue growths that grow inside the nasal passages and sinuses
  • to clear the nasal passages for easier breathing
  • to restore the sense of smell, although this is not always possible.

Although polyp removal may not be a permanent cure, it is very effective in reducing symptoms of sinusitis, and helps medical treatment get to the sinuses where the problem arises, so that medical treatment can work better in the long term.

Turbinates

Turbinate Reduction

The turbinates are structures located on the inside wall of the nose. When the inferior turbinates become enlarged, they can block nasal airflow, causing significant symptoms. Our expert surgeons may recommend turbinate reduction surgery if medical treatments such as nasal sprays do not alleviate the blockage.

What Are Turbinates?

Turbinates are bony and soft tissue structures within the nasal cavity that help humidify and filter the air we breathe. The inferior turbinates, in particular, can become enlarged due to allergies, infections, or other environmental factors, leading to nasal obstruction and breathing difficulties.

When is Turbinate Reduction Necessary?

When medical treatments fail to provide relief from nasal blockage, turbinate reduction surgery may be recommended. This decision is based on a thorough history and a complete physical examination by our consultant rhinologists, including CT scans if necessary.
